Leadville is the highest incorporated town in the entire United States. It sits at 10,200 feet right at the bottom of Colorado's two highest mountains, Mount Elbert and Mount Massive. Leadville is at the headwaters of the Arkansas River, which after 1440 miles flows into the Mississippi.

Leadville is seeing revitalization as a desirable place to live and visit. Once Colorado's second largest and rowdiest town, it has settled down into a quaint mountain town that is home to about 2,000 people. Leadville saw a very depressing period as all of the mines shut down in the second half of the 20th century. Now Leadville has one of the prettiest historic districts in the state, is an affordable alternative to staying in Summit County, which is only 24 miles away, and has many interesting old homes, mines, and the National Mining Museum to visit.
